Haircare and Hair Tool Recommendations for Wigs and Hair Toppers
Hair pieces may vary from brand, hair type, and condition and as a result, the products you use and how you apply them can also change.
The following recommendations are for general use and some that are great to have on hand with your first hair piece!
Shampoo & Conditioners
Our advice: Look for shampoos and conditioners that are sulfate free, but heavy on moisture. Bonus points for S&C that leaves hair feeling bouncy and lightweight!
Note: If you're someone that wears your hair pieces every day and waits until the very last moment to wash them (I feel you!), you may want to occasionally opt for a shampoo that has sulfates in it for a deep clean.
Fekkai Brilliant Gloss Shampoo and Conditioner
Pureology Hydrate Sheer Shampoo
Hair Masks & Leave-ins
Our advice: You want to use a deep moisturizing hair mask atleast every other wash and leave it in a water/product bath for atleast 20 minutes before rinsing it off. Silicones are ok with us for hair masks, ideally water based!
Briogeo Don't Despair, Repair Deep Conditioning Hair Mask
MILK Anti-Frizzing Leave-In Treatment
Styling Products
Kinky Curly Original Curling Custard - Curly hair gel staple!
Hair Primer/Heat Protectant
Our advice: Get something lightweight that won't weight down the hair!
Bumble & Bumble Invisible Oil Heat Protectant Primer
Mizani 25 Miracle Milk Heat Protectant Leave-In Conditioner (a little bit goes a long way with this product! It's technically for curly hair but I love it for my straight pieces too! - Suran)
Hair Oil and Serums
Keratase Nutritive 8H Magic Night Serum Hydrating Treatment for Dry Hair (definitely a holy grail item for me. I run this through my wig at night after every other wear and it makes the hair feel so nice and soft in between washes! - Suran)
IGK Anti-Social Leave-In Dry Hair Mask (every hair piece that goes out from our office is sprayed with this. It smells amazing and is the perfect finishing spray! - Suran)
Lace Products
Malibu Un-Do-Goo Clarifying Shampoo (for washing off lace stains, powder, and concealer. Great for minor yellow tints on lace! - Suran)
Walker's Top-Loc Knot Sealer (extend the life of your delicate lace wigs with this knot sealer. Spray one layer on the inside cap and make sure it thoroughly dries before you put it on! - Suran)
Styling Tools
Andis Hot Comb (I love this one because it's ceramic and has a heavier feel that the other plastic ones. The weight is helpful to get any stubborn return hairs to lay flat. - Suran)
