Human Hair Wig Pop-Up Events Bring the Online Hair Loss Community Together!
Silk or Lace is officially back touring the United States with human hair wig and topper pop-up events after our hiatus in 2025.
Chicago, Illinois was the perfect choice for our re-introduction to in-person events as our founder, Suran Yoo, spent a few years post-grad in the city and it’s where she first started experiencing hair loss and later was diagnosed with Alopecia Areata. Hair loss is something that over 50% of women experience before they are 70 but it is still considered a taboo topic to discuss.
We have spent over 5 years building an online community that gives women a place to openly discuss their hair struggles, with people who truly understand. Our pop-up events strive to bring that online space to real life and allow women to find connections to their local hair loss communities and make friendships that go beyond just hair.
At each pop-up event, we always start with a discussion circle to meet each other, create an environment of openness and give each other a chance to share our hair stories. It’s one of our most favorite parts of the whole day!
In Chicago, the first woman to introduce herself started by ripping her wig off right then and there, which really set the tone for the whole event - this is a space to be free!
Once we break from our discussion circle, the magic of trying on the hair starts! Each member of our staff holds one-on-one consultations to help our attendees find the hair piece that will best suit them. These try-ons always turn into everyone hyping each other up, switching hair pieces and shedding a few tears.
This event was extra special though, because we unveiled our new Silk or Lace Collection 4.0 Wig that will be launching on June 9th. At the time, only the people in that room knew about this design and they were the first people to try them on outside of our office. We felt like there was no better way to introduce the piece we’ve been working on for months than with the people who came out to support us!
