Alternative Hair for Thin Hair: Interview with Stylist Kenzie Moon

What led you down the path of becoming a hair stylist?
"A friend of mine convinced me to take a couple cosmetology courses in high school for fun, but I wasn’t sure I saw myself going into the beauty field.
I took a break from my cosmetology classes after graduating high school and it wasn’t until a couple years later, when I was diagnosed with hereditary hair loss, that I decided to go back.
Anything to make my hair look less thin.
The hairstylist took her time, made me feel beautiful and calmed my nerves about the haircut. I left the salon and went straight to my local hair school and enrolled!"

As a woman with thin hair, did you have an "aha" moment the first time you tried alternative hair? What was that like?
"It was really when I started installing extensions on my clients and I could see how much their confidence soared.
I was nervous to try extensions on my thin hair, but took the leap and was so glad I did. As soon as I got them done, I wish I’d done it sooner!"

A stylist's own hair struggles can become a passion for their work. How has your own hair journey manifested into your profession?
"I wanted to share the confidence extensions gave me, not only with my own clients, but with other stylists and their clients as well.
I also wanted to master a technique that could keep extensions as hidden as possible for fine haired clients, while also keeping it as damage free as possible.
That’s where I created my Secret Method technique.
None of this would’ve been possible if I hadn’t found the confidence for myself first.

What advice would you give someone with thin hair who is thinking about going to their stylist to discuss options?
"Book a consultation first, and find a stylist who has worked with thin hair before.
Ask to see their extension work, and ask how they'll keep your own hair healthy underneath.
A good stylist will be honest about what your hair can hold.
