An Interview With Jess, The Creator of the Hair Loss Girl Boss Wig Grip
Jess has been "making wig wearing fun since 2021" as stated in her Instagram bio where she has gained almost 90K followers and shares her life with wigs, the best tips for hair loss and so much more.
After finding success online, Jess has created her first product for the hair industry - the Hair Loss Girl Boss Wig Grip. The product has gained a popular interest and has sold out twice on Silk or Lace already!
Let's get to know more about the woman behind the wig.

Where are you based?
I’m originally a Jersey girl but have called Baltimore Maryland home for the past 12 years.
Tell us your hair loss story!
It’s a long story! But I’ll keep this short. About two and half years ago my hair started shedding in startling amounts. I had no idea what was going on or what to do about it, so at first I did nothing (except panic). My hair continued to fall to the point where I really couldn’t hide it (despite my best efforts and all the root spray in the world) so I decided to take action.
I went to see a trichologist who diagnosed me with Telogen Effluvium. Then I went to see my dermatologist who said my hair loss was also due to androgenic alopecia. Apparently you can have both! I tried a few different treatments they recommended, but unfortunately I didn’t see any results.
I remember one night as I was desperately searching the internet for a solution, I came across a site that mentioned wigs and toppers and I thought to myself “never in a million years.” But my hair continued to fall and it started to impact me not only physically, but also mentally and emotionally. My sweet husband saw what a toll it was taking on me and he very gently brought up the idea of a wig to help relieve my stress. He pitched it to me as a new accessory I get to go shop for and I get to have the hair I’ve always wanted.
After initially resisting the idea, I decided to make my first wig consult appointment and my only regret is that I didn’t do it sooner!
Wigs have changed my life.
What started your idea on creating wig grips?
I’ve tried so many different wig grips but could never find one with all of the features I wanted. Since I couldn’t find the exact grip I was looking for, I decided to make it!
So I took each of my favorite wig grip features and combined them to make the Hair Loss Girl Boss Wig Grip.
What's your favorite hair color?
I love a good brunette balayage!
What's your favorite hair style?
Mid-length with loose, slightly messy curls and a side part because I don’t care what anybody says, the side part has never and will never go out of style.
What do you say to people when you tell them you wear wigs?
It really depends on the situation and the person I’m telling. My responses range anywhere from a simple “thanks, it’s a wig!” to “How much time do you have?” because I can talk about wigs for hours. But it certainly wasn’t that way in the beginning.
First I had to realize that I don’t owe anyone an explanation and that it was completely up to me who I share this with and how much I share. Then I started to build my confidence to talk about it. And now it’s my favorite topic.
How did your kids respond to your wearing hair?
I’ve been wearing wigs since my daughter was 3 years old, so for her it’s a pretty normal everyday thing that “mommy wears a wig.” She’s 5 now and has asked me why I wear wigs. I explained that my hair doesn’t grow that much anymore and now I get to wear these really beautiful wigs! I think responding with excitement and confidence about the topic helps to normalize wig wearing. I will say, if you ever want an honest opinion about how a wig looks, ask a 5 year old, they do not hold back!

Paris and Costa Rica

Definitely salty. Give me all the chips and salsa!
What's your best piece of advice for a small business?
Don’t be afraid to fail!
